The designer’s journey unfolds as they navigate the intricate relationship between form and function. My thesis serves as a roadmap, tracing the exploration of form and function through the lens of beauty and utility. Driven by real-life observations and experimentation, I embark on The Pursuit of Discovery to explore patterns in objects that bring together these two concepts. Through iterative processes, I search for the harmonious balance or so-called “golden-standard” of design, inviting audience to explore and discover their own ideals within the work.

The Pursuit of Discovery draws inspiration from and builds upon existing objects of both function and beauty. Through an iterative process, I demonstrate the extent to which function—embodied by reproducibility, efficiency, problem-solving, and art—is created through craftsmanship and tactile features. This exploration unveils the apparent contradiction between these concepts, revealing a spectrum of designs prompted by variables of resources, price, and time in relation to beauty and utility. Beyond personal discovery, this journey invites audiences to discern their own insights within the relationship of form and function and visualizes data collected in a digital archive.
